________

Dear ________,

Staff redundancies

I write to update you on the current redundancy situation within the business.

Process to Date

You will be aware that I first informed staff members on ________ that I was considering making redundancies within our workforce for the following reasons:

________

At this stage, I have considered whether compulsory redundancies may be avoided. In particular, I have introduced changes (and reductions) to staff working hours.

Provisional Redundancy Proposals

Despite my above attempts, I regret that I to inform you that I still consider I will be unable to avoid making one compulsory redundancy within the business.

I anticipate that, in accordance with the needs of the business, any such redundancy shall be made from the following department: ________.

As you are employed within the above department, this letter is sent to inform you that you are unfortunately at risk of redundancy.

Next Steps

Any final selection for redundancy will be made from the department which has been described above using the following selection criteria:

________

I do wish to stress at this stage that no final decision has been made. I am aware of the importance of consulting and meeting with each affected employee individually in order to discuss matters.

I therefore wish to invite you to attend a consultation meeting with me on ________ at ________. The meeting will take place at ________. You may bring a colleague or trade union representative to the meeting if you wish to do so.

I would be grateful if you could please confirm whether the above time and date is suitable for you by no later than close of business on ________. I would also be grateful if you could confirm the name of any person who will be accompanying you to the meeting by this date. Please do not hesitate to let me know if you require any specific adjustments to assist your attendance at the meeting.

At the meeting we will discuss the above proposals in detail and you will be provided with the opportunity to ask any questions, raise any issues and make any suggestions in respect of the proposals set out in this letter. In particular, I intend to cover the following topics:

(a). Further discussions about my reasoning for proposing a compulsory redundancy within the business (and answering any specific questions you may have about this).

(b). Views which you may have regarding the ways in which the compulsory redundancy may be avoided, including discussions about alternative employment within the business.

(c). Further information about the decision to make the redundancy from the department which has been described above, why you have been deemed at risk of redundancy and answering any further questions you may have about this.

(d). Further information the selection criteria which has been set out above, any questions you may have about this and any suggestions which you wish to make about this.

(e). Views which you may have about why you should not be selected for redundancy.

(f). Discussions about the anticipated terms of any redundancy.

(g). Any other issues or questions which you may wish to raise.

It is useful for you to consider in advance of the meeting any specific or additional points you may wish to raise. You are invited and welcomed to submit any written suggestions or concerns to me in advance of the meeting.

You will be notified in writing once I have made a final decision and you will also be provided with the opportunity to attend a meeting to discuss this. At the present time, it is my intention to reach a final decision on or before ________.

Yours sincerely,
