Dear Sir or Madam,

RE: Claim for compensation in respect of a delayed flight pursuant to Regulation (EC) No 261/2004 (as retained and amended in UK domestic law by the Air Passenger Rights and Air Travel Organisers' Licensing (Amendment) (EU Exit) Regulations 2019)

I write in connection with the above flight, on which I (together with my fellow passengers named below, where applicable) was booked to travel on ________. The names of all passengers covered by this claim are: ________.

I enclose copies of the tickets, boarding passes and the receipt of purchase by way of evidence of the booking and travel.

The flight was scheduled to depart from ________ at ________ and to arrive at ________ at ________. The scheduled flight distance is approximately ________ kilometres.

In the event, the flight was delayed and I did not arrive at my final destination until ________, a delay of ________ hours beyond the scheduled time of arrival.

On the basis of the flight distance set out above, I am entitled to fixed compensation under Article 7 of the Regulation in the sum of ________. I am also entitled to reimbursement of reasonable expenses incurred as a result of the delay (including refreshments, meals and, where applicable, accommodation and transport) under Article 9, in the sum of ________, supporting receipts for which are enclosed.

I do not consider that any extraordinary circumstances applied to this flight. If you contend otherwise, I require you to provide full written particulars and supporting evidence of the circumstances relied upon.

Please respond in writing within 14 days of the date of this letter to confirm:

  • receipt of this letter;
  • that you accept liability to pay compensation for the delay to my flight;
  • the total sums due in pounds sterling;
  • the method and date of payment of those sums; and
  • any further steps or information required from me.
